What is an Interlock Device?
Getting a car breathalyzer ignition interlock installed in your vehicle and acquiring an alcohol interlock licence condition means you are in an Alcohol Interlock Program. Ignition interlock equipment works as a car breathalyzer and is directly on the vehicle’s ignition system. The alcohol interlock device will require the driver to blow into the breathalyzer mouthpiece before starting the car. If there are any traces of alcohol in the given breath sample, the vehicle may not start. The alcohol breathalyzer interlock also requires breath testing while you are travelling. The interlock device will record all breath tests conducted.
A car breathalyzer ignition interlock is the most effective way to ensure that individuals can drive or continue driving. Without a doubt, the ignition interlock can perform reliable alcohol breath testing. If you have an ignition interlock installed, having a portable breathalyzer will be helpful to prevent recorded interlock offences. BACtrack personal breathalyzers are compact and easy to use. Before starting your interlock device, you can conduct an alcohol breath test with your BACtrack device to check for the alcohol in your system.

Driving with an interlock device
The driver needs to breathe into the car breathalyzer ignition interlock before starting the vehicle. The interlock device then analyses the breath sample provided, and if the device detects alcohol, the car will not be able to start. The driver is also required to provide random breath samples while the vehicle is in use at random times. In addition, the alcohol interlock device will record all alcohol readings and violations. The individual with the interlock device fitted onto their car will be required to take it to a certified installer for servicing and to have their interlock device data downloaded each month. If the driver does not bring the vehicle for the scheduled service date, the alcohol interlock device may prohibit the car from starting. Furthermore, one should take note that having a BACtrack personal breathalyzer could help prevent more DUI offences.
